Walking into the Moxy is an experience, with check in located at their vibrant bar, where you are greeted like a regular. A complimentary Moxy-tail awaits after you put your bags away, or if you just can't wait, right then and there. The staff is fun, friendly, and most importantly, attentive. location:In the heart of the Gaslamp District, walking distance from bars, food and entertainment, Moxy is close to everything. Bored? Cross the street and check out a show at The American Comedy Company. Hungry or thirsty? Check out any of the 300+ bars and restaurants within a mile. You won't run out of things to do in the Gaslamp District. vibe:It's been said that Moxy is geared toward the "Instagram all the things crowd. They're not wrong, and I'm not mad about it. A giant neon sign greets you on entry, and colorful art lines every possible space of the hotel. Paying tribute to San Diego's naval history, you won't run out of opportunities for an IG-worthy selfie here. The staff is young, and there is plenty of opportunity to meet people in the common areas if you're traveling alone or with friends. rooms:Although many have said that rooms at the Moxy are noisy (what one would expect staying downtown in any city), I was given a room away from the bustle below. The rooms are cozy (read: small) and modern, with artwork all over, from the throw pillows, to fun frames, and a bulletin board. There is no closet or drawers, but let's be honest, most people don't use those anyway, and if you do, you're on a whole 'nother level of life I haven't reached yet. I live out of my suitcase. The bathroom doesn't offer much in the way of privacy with a barn door, so make sure if you're sharing with someone, you're comfortable sharing ALL aspects of the room. Hairdryers are provided, along with shampoo and conditioner you'll ACTUALLY want to use. If you're looking for a cup of cafecito in the morning, stop. Fresh coffee is located in the lobby, and freshly squeezed orange juice can be found at the bar. amenities:The lobby has more to offer than just the bar, you'll also find two old school arcade machines, Jenga, a shuffleboard and although it lacks a restaurant, there are snacks for sale. The second floor overlooks the game and bar area, and offers a semi-peaceful refuge in the form of a library area and business center. For those looking to get their swoll on, Moxy offers a crossfit-style fitness center. final thoughts: I can't say enough about the Moxy, and will definitely be staying here again. Its proximity to everything downtown and its casual vibe will keep me coming back. My only complaint is that it doesn't cater to the Marriott Bonvoy award members with the usual perks like free breakfast, etc. Let me know what you think in the comments if you stay there in the future!
